The weather has been a real battle this spring but we have managed some great striped bass fishing. In this picture the angler was using top water plugs catching stripers from 30 to 43 inches. The warm weather has finally arrived putting us in a transition stage so fishing has fluctuated from lots of trophy striped bass to great action were plenty of 26 to 34 inch fish. I am excited and ready for the Chesapeake Bay stripers to arrive as the waters warm up on the south side of Falmouth area. These trophy striped bass should be in the 40 inch range, making July and August a great time to book a Cape Cod fishing charter. We have been leaving out of Falmouth Harbor and Cape Cod Bay. Hairball Charters services all of southern Massachusetts.

Cape Cod Fishing Charters – 2017 is Off to a Great Start!
After a really slow start to the summer months we finally had a beautiful fishing day off of Falmouth Massachusetts on Hairball Charters. The day started out going out to “the Rock” to catch Black Sea Bass and we were not disappointed. There were so many of these great tasting fish that as soon as we dropped 3 lined in we had 3 fish! We knew for sure this was going to be a “meat trip” for our anglers.

Next up we were bottom fishing for Stripers and we lucked into a Bluefish. Our angler loves his Bluefish more than any other fish. He says that if Bluefish is eaten on the same day caught you can’t eat a better fish. We might have to agree with him on that.
Last but not least the Stripers were plentiful between Falmouth and Cape Cod. We caught our limit as usual. At this time of the year (in early June 2017) the Stripers run a little smaller than they do later in the summer.
With a cooler full of fish we had to go home and cook them up. We started out with frying the Bluefish on this night. The rest of the fish will be eaten over the next couple of weeks. As a tip for freezing your fish we suggest that you wash the fish in cold ice water with sea salt. This will help “tighten up the meat” for freezing and makes it taste great when you are ready to serve it next week or next month.

Cape cod charter fishing at it’s best! Fishing for striped bass with Hairball charters.
Been fishing with Capt. Eric for 14 years, once or twice a year, and he has never failed bringing us back with a cooler full of fish!
Went out by Provincetown using top water lures and the fish went nuts! 6 fish 45″ or larger!
We’ve been bottom jigging, chunking, live was, and now top water, and they were all action packed!!
Nobody better than Capt. Eric and Hairball Charters!!
June Fishing Charter for Stripers & Black Sea Bass
Great day of fishing with the Rockwood Inc annual trip. We spent the day charter fishing with Hairball Charters out of Falmouth, Ma on Cape Cod for Stripe bass. After stripers we went for Black Sea Bass. The best part of the trip was not having to filet the fish, Eric had them ready for the grill. Great day! Can’t wait for next year.

May Striped Bass Charter Fishing
Striper Trips – May 18th & 19th
Two fantastic days of Cape Cod Striped Bass charter fishing. Started the 5/18 trip in the Vineyard Sound using light tackle in the rips and finished catching bigger fish on the edges in 38′. The fish were feeding on squid and juvenile scup. Today’s trip we moved north to Cape Cod Bay catching fish in swimmer plugs, Hogy soft baits and hairball jigs. All fish both days were ranging from keeper size to 45in. We will be back out tomorrow fishing Falmouth.

Fishing for Striped Bass on Cape Cod
For the past 3-4 years we have been fishing with Hairball Charters out of Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. If you want a great family outing and you want to share the experience with your loved ones there is no better way to do than being on the water with Captain Eric Stapelfeld. Cape Cod could be my most favorite place in the world and the good news is there are a lot of fish there.
Captain Eric can put you on all kinds of species of fish but our favorite are the striped bass. Why? The stripers are big and put up a great fight. We have fished out of Falmouth and off of Martha’s Vineyard with Hairball. So far we have lucked out with great weather on the past dozen or so trips. The scenery is great, the fishing is great and Eric does a great job of putting us on the fish all the time. Sure, we have had a couple of slower days but we always catch fish.
The past couple of times we fished out of Massachusetts Bay near Sandwich at night all the way to Provincetown.
It seems like the fish like to feed at dusk. This has worked out really well more than once. Afterwards Captain Eric fillets the fish like the pro that he is and we take the fish to JR Brody’s in Falmouth and have them grill, poach, fry or bake any way we want it. Nothing better than fried Striper. It gets even better if we can catch a few bluefish as well. Bluefish caught and eaten the same day is the best.
Eric taught me a little trick in freezing the Stripers. He said to take the fillets and wash them in water with lots of ice and sea salt. This seems to tighten up the meat and allows for better storage in the freezer for longer periods of time. As of this writing the limit is 1 fish per person. But when we were able to take 2 per person we able to freeze a good amount of fish for months at a time.
The biggest Striper we ever caught was just under 50.” (See Photo Above) And that was a big fish for us.
Get Ready 2017 Fishing Season!
Looks like it’s going to be a great season coming up!
