Striper Fishing Guide, Captain Eric Stapelfeld

Captain Eric Stapelfeld

I grew up in New Hampshire and summered in Falmouth, Massachusetts. For as long as I can remember my life revolved around the water. As a child I can remember the Falmouth charter boats going back and forth from their daily fishing trips and wanting so badly to go out with them.

As a ten-year-old, I used to drive my mother crazy in the summer by getting up at 4:30 in the morning to go striper and blue fishing from the jetties along Falmouth’s shoreline. And when I was home in New Hampshire I was always out all day and night fishing the rivers and lakes for fresh water species. I loved the outdoors and completed Outward Bound camps to keep me busy.

After high school, I moved to Florida and lived in Naples as well as Key West, where I fished for several years, and also spent extended stretches in Costa Rica and Nome, Alaska — fishing, fishing and more fishing! If you asked me what my favorite fish is, I’d have to say fishing at night for snook, Really.

Come fishing with me in my Falmouth fishing boat and I’ll tell you why. Of course I am so devoted to trophy striper fishing. I’ve fished many tournaments, won a few, and even invented some winning fishing gear, including the Hairball double-hooked jig. This fishing lure has caught fish around the world including over 10,000 striped bass. I had a big thrill in 2009 when I captained the New England Patriot Ty Warren’s boat on a off shore fishing trip that landed Ty the Mass state record dolphin. I’ve been lucky to get some great exposure over the years, and you can see some of my magazine cover shots here (that’s also me in the one above) and see some of the articles written about me here. Today I make my home in Wilton, New Hampshire, with my wife and three young children, and I spend the winters working on my charter boat, hunting and getting ready for the next fishing season.
