False Albacore Fishing (also known as Little Tunny)
August and September are some of the best times to fish for False Albacore in Nantucket Sound and around Martha’s Vineyard. These fish are strong like a tuna and make fast line peeling runs. We often find them busting randomly between Martha’s Vineyard’s north shore and the Elizabeth Islands, plus they are abundant out in the open ocean too.
“False Albies” as they are called are another perfect fighting fish and are a welcome addition to our late summer and early fall fishing lineup off Cape Cod.
Technique
Light tackle and flyrod enthusiasts love fishing for false albacore in Cape Cod’s waters. Trolling is also an effective means of catching false albies.
